For many students, particularly during the early years,
maintaining consistency is a key element in their success.
A key tenet in a Montessori education is the multi-age
classroom where the child has the same teacher for several
years. Children are not classified by grade, but are
part of a Children's House.
Our school is grouped into five houses:
- Discovery House (3 - 4 year olds - must be 3 by
Dec 1st and fully potty trained)
- Concrete House (4 - 5 year olds)
- Imagination House (6 - 9 year olds)
- Creativity House (9 - 12 year olds)
- Wisdom House (12 - 14 year olds)
Discovery House (Preschool)
In the Discovery House, children choose to work in five
distinct areas including practical life, sensorial,
mathematics, language arts, and cultural arts. Pre-School
curriculum is designed for children to develop social
skills, self respect, independence and emotional awareness
within their environment. Carefully planned activities
allow the children to move around the classroom and
work independently, while fostering learning at a child’s
individual pace.
Concrete House (Kindergarten)
In the Concrete House, children continue to work in
five distinct areas including practical life, sensorial,
mathematics, language arts, and cultural arts. Children
are working toward normalization, the process by which
the students move into self-disciplined, organized,
and focused work. Carefully prepared and beautifully
displayed materials are used to captivate the child
and lead to deep concentration.
Imagination House (Grades 1-3)
In the Imagination House, the goal is to spark and ignite
interests through the use of the Great Lessons and timeline.
The concept of cosmic education, starting with the big
idea and working toward the smaller ideas, is also important.
Creativity House (Grades 4-6)
In the Creativity House, students continue to be guided
and inspired through the framework of cosmic education.
The use of the Great Lessons, timelines, and the hands-on
materials are agents to propel the child into abstraction.
Imagination and a love of learning are encouraged through
hands-on science and research based learning.
Wisdom House (Grades 7-8)
In the Wisdom House, students learn and develop through
projects. In this house, students take greater responsibility
for their own learning.
